Outline: Dressed for Battle
Text: Ephesians 5:11-18
Introduction:
Paul contends that the Christian life is a battle; therefore, to obtain victory the believer must be properly dressed for war. This great passage details the armor of God, and our responsibility to get suited up and fight.
I. THE WARFARE OF THE SOLDIER (v11-12)
A. The Equipment we Find-
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
B. The Enemy we Fight-
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
II. THE WARDROBE OF THE SOLDIER (v13-17)
A. The Purpose of the Garments- “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
B. The Pieces of the Garments- “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
III. THE WINNING OF THE SOLDIER (v13-18)
A. Found in our Standing–
“and having done all, to stand.”
B. Found in our Sword-
“sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
C. Found in our Supplication-
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
Conclusion:
The Christian life is full of battles and burdens. We are destined for defeat when we fail to properly don the wardrobe provided for us by our Heavenly Captain. The secret to overcoming the enemy is wearing all of the armor. Take hold of the provided pieces and watch the Lord lead you to victory.
