Holiness is Not a Dirty Word

Holiness is a divine attribute that can only be imparted to us and through us by our standing and position in Christ. An unsaved person cannot be holy; and a saved person can only be holy as he surrenders his will to the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore we measure our holiness not by how stark or different we are from the world (the world is always changing their standards); rather we measure our holiness with the alignment of Scripture, and our resemblance to Jesus. Jerry Bridges said, “Many Christians have what we might call a cultural holiness. …

Developing a Daily Devotion

The secret to living the Christian life is to live it every day.  There was a time in my life when spending time with God was not a daily priority.  I would go days, sometimes even weeks without opening my Bible or having a serious conversation with the Lord; but looking back I now see how anemic and weak my faith was during those days.  The strength of our faith rests upon the intimacy and fellowship with the Lord.  Too often we limit and confine our time with God to one hour a week in a sanctuary.  We must be …

Questions to Ask During Times of Adversity

Everyone knows that trials are a part of life; no one is exempt from hardships, headaches, and heartbreaks.  The Bible tells us to “count it all joy” when we face such calamity; but anyone going through something would admit that counting it all joy is easier said than done.

God allows adversity to come into our lives for specific reasons; as we search out those reasons it is easy to ask God WHY?  But have you ever tried asking Him WHAT, HOW, and WHO?

1. What Can I Learn from This Trial?

The tragedy of a trial is not actually …

The Blessings of Boredom

It is during the seasons of adversity that I learn to appreciate boredom.  Oftentimes we complain about the mundane, mediocre moments that monopolize our lives; you know: the predictable suppers, the overcrowded highways, the same-old sitcoms, the old worn-out pajamas, the ordinary, run-of-the-mill content of each ordinary day.  It seems like we undervalue and underrate the dullness until something bad occurs.

Isn’t it ironic how the death of a loved one, a lost job, a bad doctor’s report, or a financial setback causes us to long for the ordinary?  It is then we realize that boredom is actually a blessing.…

The Lord Keeps Up with Everybody

Have you ever read your Bible and not meaning to you start thinking of something else?    Well, not long ago I was reading through Nehemiah 6-8, and when I got to chapter 7 the writer started listing all the names of the children of Israel that came back to Jerusalem from the Babylonian captivity.  The chapter looks like this:

Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;
The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.
The

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
