Practical Tips to Consider When Preparing an Expository Outline

A sermon outline is simply the structure of a particular passage of Scripture designed in an organized fashion to help communicate more smoothly the exposition of the text. Plain and simple.  Just because someone has an impressive outline doesn’t mean the outline is expositionally correct, neither does it guarantee quality preaching.  In his book, Power in the Pulpit, Jerry Vines comments, “Structure is not what preaching is all about. 1 TIMOTHY 1:18-20

Introduction:

Timothy was not only in a spiritual war, he was also in a severe tumultuous storm.  He watched those around him fall victim and prey to the wiles of Satan.  Paul warned Timothy of the catastrophe and challenged him to be ready for a fight.

 

I. The Challenge to a Soldier (v18)

A. The Necessary Reminder- “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went   before on thee,”

Introduction:

Crying is part of the human experience.  From the first tears as a baby to the deep loss of a loved one we all know what it is like to shed a few tears.  In this psalm David was overwhelmed by emotion and cried with the “voice of weeping.”
