Overcoming the Misery of Negativity

What an incredible experience it must have been as the children of Israel crossed the Rea Sea on dry ground and watched the God of Abraham collapse the walls of water on their enemies. The bondage in Egypt had been severe, their taskmasters cruel, but God sent deliverance that day through the blood of the paschal lamb. One may think that such a supernatural exodus from bondage would be so impressed in their minds that they would never doubt the power of God again; however, it did not take long until the people found themselves in the wilderness murmuring about …

Overcoming the Pressure of Perfectionism

Do you consider yourself to be a goal-oriented, success-driven individual who strives to do all that you can with a spirit of excellence? Do you work tirelessly until the job is done? Do you constantly look for ways to improve your life and the lives of those around you? Such people are usually entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities because they have proven themselves to be reliable, efficient, and highly motivated “go-getters.” Their virtuous efforts are not only commendable, but they are also needed for the progress and advancement of society, businesses, homes, and ministries.

Overcoming Covid, Overcoming Faith, Overcoming Journal

As I write this, I am doing all I can to overcome covid. What started out as a scratchy sore throat a few weeks ago has ended up as a full-on, all hands-on deck case of the Delta Variant. Over the past year, I have tried to sympathize with friends, family, and church members as they described their symptoms to me, but their descriptions finally made sense as the virus attacked my own senses. From loss of taste and smell to a compromised immune system, I have discovered this stuff to be a heavy hitter (especially in the lungs).

Preaching 101: Read the Foreword by Paul Chappell

Paul Chappell has had a tremendous influence on this generation of preachers and ministers.  He is a gifted preacher, a successful pastor, a dynamic administrator, an influential voice, and a prolific author.  When I set out to write Preaching 101, I wanted someone to write the foreword who represented the biblical values, hermeneutical principles, and ministerial convictions found in the book. I could think of no other preacher who modeled this more than Pastor Chappell. I am deeply honored and humbled that he would invest his time and recommendation. I hope you enjoy reading his foreword. There is a link

10 Blessings I Discovered While Preaching Expositionally through Ephesians

On January 4, 2017, I began an expositional study through the book of Ephesians during our midweek Bible study entitled “We are His.” I have preached through many books of the Bible during my ministry, but this was the first time I systematically and sequentially went through Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus. When we began the journey, I had no idea what God would do in my own heart week after week. By the time we finish our exposition in the next 3-4 weeks, we will have digested over 50 messages from the six chapters.  I had no …

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
